(Istanbul=Yonhapnews) Reporter Kim Seung-wook = Patriarch and World Patriarch Bartholomew I Constantinople(Istanbul), the head of 300 million Eastern Orthodox churches said “I am always praying for peace between North and South Korea”
The patriarch of the world patriarch Bartholomew I spoke at the meeting of Professor Lee Won-young (College of Architecture and Urban Real Estate), who visited the patriarch of Constantinople during the ‘New Silk Road for Life & No-Nukews’ campaign on August 8(local time).
Bartholomew I asked after President Moon Jae-in mentioned that he visited Korea last December and met President Moon Jae-in.
And He said “I visited the Demilitarized Zone after meeting with President Moon and prayed for soldiers who lost their lives in the Korean War, and I pray for real peace on the Korean peninsula ever since.”
The Orthodox Church, along with Catholics, is the oldest sect originating in the early Christian church. Originally one body with Catholicism, the Roman Empire was divided into Catholicism in the name of the Orthodox Church as it was divided into East and West.
Bartholomew I said, “I have been close to the Pope with friends since he was a cardinal.”
He also encouraged Professor Lee Won-young’s life and denuclearization campaign and said, “August 6, two days ago, the day the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.”, “I hope the Korean peninsula and the whole world will be free from nuclear threats,” he said.
Bartolomeos I born in Imbros Turkey in 1940, visited Korea four times: 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2018.
Professor Lee Won-young delivered a draft of the Charter on Earth-Life to Bartolomeos I. Then he asked to attend the meeting the Conference for world religious leaders to participate and confirm ‘The Charter on Earth-Life’ next year.
Professor Lee Won-young, who led the pilgrimage ‘New Silk Road for Life & No-Nukes’ since 2017, met the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala, India in February. And this year, he plans to continue the pilgrimage by walking from Athens, Greece to Rome, Italy in December.
