Should we go to 2020 Tokyo Olympics?

… Hope the Right Choice for Humanity

After the Fukushima nuclear accident, it has been two years since I started walking from Seoul to the Vatican, dreaming of creating ‘Another UN’ to manage the global community safely. ‘New Silk Road for Life & No-Nukes’ walked 5,000 kilometers to India earlier this year, then moved from Central Asia to Greece this summer.

I met many people across 15 countries, including 30-year-old young man who is Berker from Turkey. He grew up on the Black Sea coast and his entire family suffered from cancer. The radioactivity of the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986 gathers in the Dnipro River and flows into the Black Sea. Berker lost his grandparents and uncle to cancer, and his mother was in a critical condition. As such, people on the Black Sea have been in the terror of radiation for over 30 years.

The major problem with nuclear power plants is the “destruction of conscience” that forces future generations to make sacrifices. It is because of this ethic that many countries are on their way to anti nuclear power plants.

It is clear that the venues for next year’s 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still contaminated with radiation is being revealed one after another. Nevertheless, the Japanese government maintains that it will play baseball games at the Azuma Baseball Stadium in Fukushima and use Fukushima food materials for the team’s meals. Some reports said radiation levels as much as 25 times the standard level were recorded on the Olympic torch relay road. At this rate, all human beings become accomplices. I prayed at the Parthenon temple in Athens, the birthplace of the ancient and modern Olympics. Please reconsider the 2020 Tokyo Olympics even now and let mankind choose the right path.

‘東京オリンピック’行かなければならないだろうか…人類の正しい選択期待

福島原発事故以後、地球村を安全に管理する‘もう一つの国連’をつくることを夢見てソウルからバチカンまで歩き始めて2年. 生命・脱核シルクロードは今年のはじめインドまで5000kmを歩いた後、今年夏中央アジアで列車などでギリシャまで移動した。

15の国を経て多くの人々に会ったが、そのうち黒海沿岸で育って家族皆が癌にかかって苦労した、トルコの30才の若者・ペルコもいた。 1986年チェルノブイリ原発事故の放射能はドニエプル川に集まって黒海に流れ込んだ。 ペルコは祖父母と叔父を癌で失って母親は危篤状態であり自身は六才の時から睾丸癌にかかり結婚をあきらめた状態だ。 このように黒海沿岸の人々は30年が過ぎても放射能恐怖に覆われている。

原発の根本問題は子孫に犠牲を強要する‘良心の破壊’だ。 多くの国が脱原発の道を歩いているのもまさにこの倫理のためだ。

来年東京オリンピックが開かれる場所が放射能に相変らず汚染されているという事実が次から次へと表れている。 それでも日本政府は福島アズマ野球場で野球競技を執り行い、福島産食材を選手団の食事に使うという立場を固守している。 オリンピック聖火ランナーのコースで基準値の何と25倍にもなる放射能数値が記録されたという報道も出てきた。 このままでは人類皆が共犯になる。 古代オリンピックと近代オリンピックの始発地であるアテネのパルテノン神殿で私は祈願した。 今からでも東京オリンピックを再考することを、そして人類が正しい道を選択することを。
