[Daily march log 0816] Biwako starts walking in Shiga Prefecture

0. Picture of the day is the scene on the bridge (same location) on which the Joseon envoys (1600s-1700s) walked.

1. The morning after the typhoon had passed, comrades from Shiga Prefecture came to Kusatsu Station. As soon as we meet, there are people who hand over the support money.

2. Some are citizens of Shiga Prefecture.

3. Commemorative photo before departure

4. The marching plan of the comrades in Shiga Prefecture ahead of time. I feel their sincerity.

5. A relatively short course in the morning.

6.

7. Mr. Inamura leads the way.

8. While crossing a river.

9. It’s a march with cars cheering together.

14. During my lunch break, I go with Mr. Kido to a hot spring overlooking Lake Biwa.

15. The hot spring water is very nice. The photo shows the beautiful surface of Lake Biwa seen from an open-air hot spring bath. This photo was taken in the dining room on the upper floor of the open-air bath.

16. It’s not uncommon to travel to enjoy such luxury. Commemorative photo with Mr. Kido after the hot spring bath.

17. A news about me was featured in a news magazine about the anti old nuclear power plant movement in Japan.

18. Articles such as the Kyoto Citizens’ March were also featured.

19. Stand on the starting line in the afternoon. After the typhoon has passed, it is hot summer again.

20. Moreover, this afternoon is a long distance of nearly 15 kilometers.

21. In silence walk across the wide plains that line Lake Biwa.

22. Fortunately, someone brought a taiko drum from Kyoto, and we were buoyed by the beat.

23. I can see a beautiful river.

24. I was wondering what it was, and it says that this place was where the Korean envoys used to pass through.

25. A painting that reproduces the appearance of the procession three or four hundred years ago is displayed on the railing of the bridge.

26. They look lively.

27. I am walking for a different purpose than at the time.

24. ~Niho Bridge and the Korean Highway~ Niho Bridge is a bridge on the prefectural road Otsu Notogawa Nagahama Line that spans the Hino River, a first-class river. The old bridge was located a little further downstream than it is now, and it was a bridge that even the Korean envoys passed through. From 1607 AD, the 12th year of the Keicho era, to 1764 AD, the Korean envoys traveled back and forth to Edo Castle ten times to promote goodwill between the two countries. Along the way, the section that splits from the Nakasendo at Yasu and joins the Nakasendo again at Hikone through Omihachiman came to be called the “Kosenjin Kaido”. At that time, the Niho Bridge was a simple bridge that crossed over the plank bridge and climbed onto the embankment on the opposite bank. Eleven villages, including Konan Village, called Kakegumi, worked together to replace the bridge with an earthen bridge to make it easier to pass through.”
